Kazemi Prize


The Prize is an international Prize which was established in 2010 to respect the efforts and revive the memories of Dr Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani; the late founder of Royan Institute.
Kazemi Prize is awarded to a scientist or scientists who have made an outstanding contribution to biological sciences and health promotion. It shall consist of a medal, a diploma, and a cash award.

The Prize is awarded once a year during the Royan International Research Award prize ceremony in Islamic Republic of Iran.

Procedure for Proposal and Selection of Candidates
Any national scientific administration, any international scientific organization/society, and any former recipient of the Prize may propose the name of a candidate who, in their opinion, qualifies for the Prize; the nomination must be accompanied by a written justification. The Prize Selection Panel, then, decides on the recommendation and designates the recipient (or recipients) of the Prize.

Kazemi Prize Guidelines
1.    The Kazemi Prize consisting of a Bronze medal, a diploma, and a cash award of twenty thousand (20,000) $, will be awarded for an outstanding contribution to biological sciences and health promotion.
2.    The Prize aims at encouraging the further development of outstanding works in biological sciences as well as appreciating the extreme efforts of the scientist who dedicates his/her life to make progress in human life and relief people’s pain.
3.    Any national scientific administration, any international scientific organization/society, and any former recipient of the prize may propose the name of a candidate who, in their opinion, qualifies for the Prize; the nomination must be accompanied by a written justification.
4.    The evaluation of nominees will be done by an international jury board.
5.    To further support the documentary evidence, if necessary, the Administrator, on behalf of the Prize Selection Panel, reserves the right to examine the work done by the candidate/candidates.
6.    Current members of the Prize Selection Panel shall be ineligible to receive the Prize.
7.    If more than one candidate is considered eligible by the Prize Selection Panel and selected to receive the Prize, the sum will be proportionately distributed between them.
8.    These guidelines will be reviewed and updated periodically as considered appropriate.

Kazemi Prize Statute
Article 1/Establishment
Under the title of the “Kazemi Prize”, a Prize is established which shall be governed by the following provisions.
Article 2/The Founder
The Prize is established with the funds provided by Royan Institute (hereinafter referred to as “the Founder or the Foundation”).
Article 3/Prize
•    The purpose of the Foundation is to award a Prize (Kazemi Prize) to a scientist or scientists, who have made an outstanding contribution to health promotion and research in biological sciences especially in stem cell biology and technology. The specific criteria that shall be applied in the assessment of the work done by the candidate/candidates shall be determined by the Prize Selection Panel.
•    The Prize shall be presented during Royan International Research Award prize ceremony.
•    The Prize shall consist of a Bronze medal, a diploma, and a cash award of twenty thousand (20,000) $.
•    The sum of money initially determined may be adjusted from time to time by the Selection Panel, based on the changes in the capital of the Foundation, variation in interest rates and other relevant factors.
•    If the Prize is awarded to more than one scientist, the sum of money shall be proportionately distributed between them.
Article 4/ Proposal and Selection of Candidates
Any national or international scientific administration/ organization/society and any former recipient of the prize may propose the name of a candidate who, in their opinion, qualifies for the award.
•     Proposals shall be submitted to the secretary of Prize Selection Panel.
•     Current members of the Prize Selection Panel shall be ineligible to receive the Prize.
Article 5/ Prize Selection Panel
•    Kazemi Prize Selection Panel (“The Prize Selection Panel”) shall consist of all members of the scientific council of Royan institute- the Foundation- (Royan institute President and his deputies, directors of Royan institutes for Reproductive Biomedicine, Biotechnology, Stem cell as well as the head of one of their scientific groups and also three scientists from other universities or research institutes) .
•    The presence of two-thirds of the members of the Prize Selection Panel shall be required for the taking of decisions. The Panel shall take decisions by a majority of its members.
